HOURGLASS 2014 Blue Line Estate

Peering through the glass turret of a helicopter hovering at about 400 feet, you can see how two parallel mountain ranges—the Mayacamas to the west and the Vaca to the east—funnel together in dramatic fashion to form the hourglass-shaped Napa Valley. It is from this unique vantage point that we can begin to understand the magic of the vineyard that lies precisely at the narrowest point between the constricting mountains.

It was in 1992 that Dr. Kliewer first described the singular positioning of the vineyard to Jeff Smith and its equally exceptional geography. Dr. Kliewer knew the “hourglass effect” would play a significant role in defining the yet-to-be-planted Cabernet vineyard, but he could not articulate exactly how. He explained to Jeff that the Smith family’s vineyard defined the pinch of the hourglass-shaped valley and advised him to pay attention as he farmed the vineyard over time.

When you hear the word "HOURGLASS" most of them they think an invertible device with two connected glass bulbs containing sand that takes an hour to pass from the upper to the lower bulb and what it is got to do with the vineyard, The same thing I experienced when my best buddy Greg Patane from angel share invited me for the master class by Jeff smith from HOURGLASS.

I am so much found of and I love to attain master class, in master class you will get lot of knowledge about the vineyard their principle, you get to meet them personally and share taught about their new project and so on. HOURGLASS master class was my 3 rd seminar for the year 2016 and I was so happy to finish the year 2016 with a master stroke.

Before we taste the HOURGLASS WINE Jeff smith had lot of surprises, He explained the things so beautifully by tasting a series of wines like 1969 Robert Mondavi cab, 1986 B.R.Cohn cab, 1991 Abreu cab, we could see the difference in their taste the quality, their aging ability, the passion, dedication in making towards the wine.

After tasting the age old wine which has more capability to age, We started to taste the HOURGLASS wine, we tasted wide range of wine including Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon, cab franc, and red blend all of those were amazing and beautiful, I am not a great fan of Merlot but Hourglass Merlot changed my mind and it convince me that only Merlot I have to drink is Hourglass Merlot and no doubt in it, my wine community will also agree in that.
